Helping hand for sugar

MONEY IS GOING to Barbados’ struggling sugar industry.

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart made the announcement yesterday during the monthly luncheon of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce & Industry at Hilton Barbados.

Stuart was responding to a claim at the luncheon that the sugar industry was in danger of “total collapse” because the body that encompasses the largest number of growers had no money to reap canes.

“All of the documentation needed to be signed and [everything] that has to be executed has been executed and [the Barbados Agricultural Management Company] is to get the pay over from . . . ANSA Merchant Bank so that the farmers can get their money,” Stuart reported.
