POLICE ARE ON THE HUNT for the person who shot and critically wounded a man in The City yesterday.

The Friday evening hustle along the busy stretch on Bridge Street, leading to the Fairchild Street Bus Terminal, was interrupted around 4:15 p.m.when shots rang out. It left 18-year-old Rashon Alexander of St David’s, Christ Church, with a bullet wound to the back.

Up to news time police public relations officer Acting Assistant Superintendent David Welch could only confirm that a man was shot and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) by ambulance.

People converged on the area in droves as word spread about the shooting. Various theories were thrown out as people tried to elude the police corridor to get a glimpse of whatever action they could, even when the victim had long been taken to the QEH.

“Too much violence. They want hanging. That’s what they want,” one man was heard saying as he passed outside of the protected area.

The shooting took place inches away from the tray of one of the vendors who operates on the bridge.

“It happened so fast right, that I only hear a pax.

“It really shock me,” the vendor added.

The shooting was the second incident in as many days to occur along that stretch. Two employees of Melwanis, metres away from the shooting scene, escaped injury on Thursday when a sports utility vehicle crashed into the store’s display window. (YB)
