LEROY PARRIS’ SEEMINGLY close friendship with members of Government is causing concern among CLICO policyholders under the umbrella Barbados Investors and Policyholders Alliance (BIPA).
And they are hoping this will not derail any possible resolution to the whole CLICO saga.
BIPA president June Fowler said the issue has been raised, but took heart from Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s assurance that their issue would be handled with integrity and transparency.
Fowler said she had heard the rumours of the linkages but her only concern would be the impact this could have on policyholders getting back as much as possible of their investment into the collapsed insurance giant.
Parris, the retired executive chairman of CLICO International Life Insurance Company (CIL) and CLICO Holdings, is widely acknowledged as a major backer of the ruling Democratic Labour Party and was a close friend and client of late Prime Minister David Thompson. (SP)
