MEMBERS OF THE Barbadian Christian Council were informed of the importance of the National Tourism Host Programme (NTHP) to Barbados’ tourism product recently when manager of the Programme, Marsha Alleyne made a brief presentation at their Henry’s Lane, Lower Collymore Rock, St Michael offices.

During the presentation, the Manager explained that the goal of the NTHP was to enhance the knowledge base and raise the level of awareness of the importance of tourism among those in the sector as well as members of the public.

She further advised that the NTHP had two components – the Barbados Together Component which focused on improving the knowledge-base of the hosts through the use of educational and awareness capacity building; and the Hosting Barbados Style Component which sought to improve the institutional and policy framework within government, in an effort to ensure that the destination retained and improved its competitive edge internationally and regionally.

During her presentation, Alleyne also outlined the goals of the NTHP which included improving the relationship between the guest and members of the public; providing those persons employed in the sector with the information necessary to fully satisfy the needs of guests; providing employers with the tools necessary to orient employees; and developing other systems to support the continued success of the industry.  (BGIS)
