PACER Miguel Cummins grabbed five wickets including the key scalp of Shivnarine Chanderpaul to put Barbados Pride in the ascendancy against Guyana Jaguars today.
On a rain-affected second day of their seventh round WICB Professional Cricket League match at Kensington Oval, Cummins bowled impressively to leave the table leaders struggling on 173 for nine in response to Barbados Pride’s first innings total of 312.
Cummins finished with five for 48 off ten overs and claimed the important wicket of Chanderpaul for a duck when the durable left-hander was caught at short backward square attempting to hook.
The tall pacer also cheaply removed key batsmen Leon Johnson and Narsingh Deonarine.
Cummins’ three wickets in his opening spell left Guyana Jaguars reeling on 75 for five but they managed to avoid the follow-on through half-centuries from opener Vishaul Singh (60) and Chris Barnwell (56).
Off-spinner Ashley Nurse supported Cummins with two wickets.
Earlier, Barbados Pride lost their last five wickets for 49 after resuming on 258 for five.
Summarised scores: Barbados Pride 312 (Kraigg Brathwaite 102, Shai Hope 69, Kyle Corbin 46; Devendra Bishoo 6-94). Guyana Jaguars 173-9 (Vishaul Singh 60, Chris Barnwell 56; Miguel Cummins 5-48, Ashley Nurse 2-35). (HG)
