WHILE SHE DID not win any of the individual trophies, 21-year-old Megghan Michael won the hearts of the judges and a few new fans when she was crowned the 33rd Miss Holetown Festival queen last night in a keenly contested show.
Held at the Frederick Smith Secondary School, seven young ladies showcased talent, swimwear and their ability to answer questions under pressure.
Each girl had her own cheering section, albeit somewhat smaller in numbers than previous years. Front runners were Shontonia Hall who didn’t place but won Miss Internet and Miss Photogenic and eventual winner Michael, whose beautiful gown won Best Designer (Rotchelle Parris of Pink Lemonade).
Under the theme Tropical Paradise, each girl represented a flower, ranging from the white lily, to the blue orchid to the Pride of Barbados.
The tightly run show also saw Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy presenting some of the prizes and a surprise appearance on stage by principal of Parkinson Memorial Secondary School, Jeff Broomes, during first runner-up Ashly Evelyn’s dramatic piece entitled I Can’t Believe This. Evelyn also won Best talent. Second runner-up was Jalisia Boxill. (NS)
