Russell key to Windies fortunes

CLIVE LLOYD rates him as potentially among the finest all-rounders in the game. Andre Russell’s exploits for West Indies in South Africa and now in the early stages of the World Cup attest that the chief selector’s assessment is no hyperbole.

It’s been just over four years since Russell’s first international match, the first Test in Sri Lanka in November 2010. He dismissed Tillerkeratne Dilshan with his second ball; he hasn’t had another, confined instead to the shorter formats.

In the interim, there have been 45 ODIs and 33 Twenty20s for the West Indies; he is in his second World Cup.
