800m men dominate February Classic

THE 800 metres provided the fireworks as the February Classic came to an early end amid persistent rain at the National Stadium yesterday evening.

The Men’s Open division was the most competitive as Joshua Hunte of the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme held off strong and determined challenges from Elite Distance’s Raheem Skinner (1:56.50) and

The Lodge School’s Wade Garner (1:56.92) to take the event in 1:56.13.

Pius Emillien, who eventually finished fourth, led the field with 400 metres to go but was overtaken by the top three with about 250 metres left. At that point it was anybody’s race but Hunte had the kick and enough stamina to hold off the other contenders.
