Dear Christine,
I AM a 16-year-old student of one of the island’s best secondary schools and as a young person, I’ll like to give some advice to my peers.
I am a born-again believer who is very active in my church. I want to lay that foundation because many people are guilty of lumping all young people together – thinking we are all travelling in the same ship and heading to the path of destruction.
I am an ardent reader of your column. I love to read it so I can understand some of the problems people are facing within our community.
I want to tell young people that all is not lost and that if they would give their lives over to God, they will discover He is able to handle all their situations. I want to tell them that promiscuity, sexual immorality, stealing, lying, partying, drugs and living life in the fast lane will only lead to destruction. They will destroy their lives here on earth and be dammed for eternity.
I want to tell them that getting a good education is important to their future endeavours – especially in the world of work. I also want to tell them that they need to be better examples to those around them, including their younger siblings and family members. I also want to tell them Christine that spending time in prayer is vital and that God will take care of all their concerns if they allow Him to.
Finally, I want to tell parents they have the responsibility of making sure their children can only pattern their lives after them if they are good examples. In fact, parents are the ones who influence most.
Christine, I hope you will print my letter.
