Good times at WACA

PERTH – There was a smile as broad as Western Australia on Curtly Ambrose’s face when he walked out in the middle at the WACA ground to prepare Kemar Roach and Jerome Taylor for their ICC World Cup clash today against India.

The West Indies bowling consultant’s fond memories of this ground were evident as he was seen in a demonstrative mood and even shadow bowling, almost like a boy on a playground in beautiful sunshine and a lush green outfield.

Understandably, this was where Ambrose wrecked Australia in 1993 with a devastating spell of 7/1 when the Windies whipped Australia by an innings and 25 runs in a historic series.

“I remember it like yesterday. Bish [Ian Bishop] was bowling economical, but only had two wickets. Walshy [Courtney Walsh] and Andy [Anderson Cummins] weren’t getting wickets. So skip [Richie Richardson] came and said, ‘Give me something from this end big fella’,” Ambrose remembered with a smile.
