A POLITICAL COUP seems to be unfolding.
From what Cou Cou has gathered, the forces behind this action were involved in a similar deed that managed to successfully depose the de facto leader a few years ago.
However, their success was short-lived as they failed in their ultimate objective.
This time around, Cou Cou understands the supposed brains behind this coup are adopting a different strategy to get rid of the de facto leader again. They are stirring up strife in an unlikely place, causing the individual most affected there to think those close to the leader are trying something untoward.
To date the plan seems to be working according to script as the affected person has been out and about defending their territory against the perceived threat. And the noise they’re keeping to ensure their position is known has inevitably cast a cloud over the leader.
The scenario outlined to Cou Cou is that the threatened individual would agitate to safeguard their position and solicit others to help fight those thought to be behind the move to unseat them.
As the leader and a close associate have been implicated in this so-called conspiracy, the threatened individual would unwittingly create such a stink that it would make these two persons’ hold on power become questionable.
With confidence undermined, a move would be made to get rid of the de facto leader in favour of someone else agreeable to all those in the organisation.
This unsavoury situation seems to be working like a charm, and it is now left to be seen what the leader can do to counteract it.
Cou Cou will be keeping a keen eye on this one just for you.
Cheating or not?
A MAN ABOUT town told Cou Cou a story this week that is puzzling.
He said that a woman heard that her man was cheating on her. Though she could not prove it, she decided to embarrass him if she saw certain moves.
She waited until he went out, and assuming he may have gone with his rumoured outside lover, she called around to tell his friends she could not find him.
Eventually he came back home about midnight.
Now the man is under a cloud as his friends think he was doing his wife an injustice.
It’s now unclear what the wife will do next in this situation.
Leave the clubs alone
A REGULAR PATRON of adult clubs is appealing to significant individuals who he believes have influence with the Government to stop raiding these establishments and deporting the exotic dancers.
The man told Cou Cou that these notable individuals – especially one legal eagle who always tries to get the dancers’ attention for less than the going rate – should advise the officials that it is self-defeating for a cash-strapped Government to kill a potential cash cow.
He reasoned that given the costs in these clubs only a small number of people with deep pockets can afford to patronise them. So it was therefore not correct to suggest the goings on in these establishments can corrupt public morals as the numbers involved are too small, and those who tend to go are usually mature people.
Given this, the man said a better course of action would be to levy more taxes on these adult clubs so more money can be generated from their operation here.
Spelling out his solution, the man argued that the dancers provide an important service that is not readily available locally and are the main attraction at businesses which pay their licences and taxes, as well as employ a number of Barbadians on a full-time basis. That apart, they rent apartments, buy food and pay taxis to get them to and fro.
As these clubs make a contribution to the economy, he said it would be better to regulate and tax them more than to stop them from operating.
