IN THE LEAD-UP to today’s Sandy Lane Gold Cup, SATURDAY SPORT spoke to the trainers about the prospects of their charges in the race.
Trainer Liz Deane said the preparations of her three horses, Marcus Antonius, Aristodemus and Daunting David, are “technically finished” as she is “just freshening them up and praying they all have a safe trip.”
“Marcus Antonius is the one that I like best of the three as nine furlongs is well within his compass and, like jockey [Andy] Trotman, we are very pleased with how he has trained.”
“Aristodemus is really working well. I had my doubts about him making it to last year’s Gold Cup, after which he was thrown out for six months and is really good, much sounder, better conditioned, his overall being is better.
