Ena and Roy Hunte’s love is rooted in shared experiences and hardships encountered during their 50 years of “making a life together”.
Just like the two teenagers who fell in love decades ago, they still sing and play the love songs they shared back then.
At home with a retired Roy sitting peacefully, Ena often slips the disc with the Beatles’ song Anna into the music system. With a girlish grin she confesses “he don’t even know I am playing it for him” and Roy responds with a coy smile. He in turn will sometimes attempt a serenade with Brook Benton’s Send Me Some Loving (though he says “I can’t sing”).
