THERE WERE SIX new qualifiers on a shortened final day of the CARIFTA Games Selection Meet at the National Stadium on Sunday.

High jumper Aaron Worrell, distance runner Elizabeth Williams and hurdler Stephen Griffith were joined by multi-eventers Ramarco Thompson, Josiah Beckles and Danielle Scantlebury as athletes made their last-ditch efforts on the final day of CARIFTA qualifying.

After coming extremely close in the 1500 metres on Saturday, Williams of Elite Distance Programme, (EDP), safely booked her trip to St Kitts at Easter with a time of 10.37.20 minutes in the women’s 3 000 metres, bettering the asking time of 10.52 minutes.

Worrell cleared the required 2.00 metres in the Under-18 Boys’ high jump, and was so elated, he celebrated the feat by running across the track into the arms of one of his Quantum Leap colleagues.
