THE PARKINSON MEMORIAL Secondary School has been closed for the day as surrounding districts have been affected by a water outage.

Communications specialist of the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) Joyann Haigh said a 9” main in the area of The Pine, St Michael ruptured. There was also a power outage early this morning, which affected the pumping station.

There is no word yet from the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic or other schools in the area.

Haigh said they have resumed pumping, but it will take some time before the system is fully operational.

The Licensing Authority is reportedly not conducting business because of the outage.

Haigh said customers in St Thomas and St Joseph were also experiencing outages or low pressure after a drop in the levels at the reservoir.

The BWA is investigating that situation. (SAT)
