RECORDS ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN no matter how old they are, and so last Saturday on the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup Raceday at the Garrison Savannah, the Gay Smith bay gelding Zoom created history once again.

This son of Super Jeblar out of Flying Dove, now age ten, wore down his rivals to win the Grade I XIII Tanglewood Stakes And Trophy for West Indian-bred horses over 2 000 metres.

It was more than just a record win; it was historic for several reasons. Zoom became the first horse in the history of local horse racing to earn over half million dollars. That win pushed his earnings to $537 045, propelling him beyond an elite crowd.

His overall statistics shows 60 starts – 12 wins, nine seconds and eight thirds. The elite consists of importeds Sandford Prince and Blast Of Storm, both of whom won three Gold Cups respectively, Triple Crown winners Coo Bird and Areutalkintome along with super star Apostle.
