THEATRE AUDIENCES remember Myrna Squires as “Mabel”, whose hilarious dialogues with “Lottie” (Angela Weithers) sent audiences into fits of laughter in the late Jeanette Layne-Clarke’s Bajan comedy show Pampalam.

The laughter turned to tears when news spread that the actress, singer and retired employee of Barclays Bank  passed away this morning.

Members of the artistic community were thrown into a state of grief and some were openly emotional on learning that the effervescent personality with the beautiful voice had died at a convalescent home weeks after undergoing brain surgery.

Commenting on the passing of her stage partner, Angela Weithers told the NATION: “I will miss her because we have travelled to Canada, Britain and the USA and she was always my partner on the stage and off the stage.”

Squires was a member of the Barbados Festival Choir and the Barclays Singers and understudied Peta Alleyne as “Wilhelmina Herassofat” in another popular comedy show Laff It Off. (GC)
