NFL player pulls pocket for St Lawrence Primary

IN AN EFFORT to give back to Barbados while on vacation, San Francisco 49er Kassim Osgood of the National Football League (NFL) donated US$5 000 to the Sandals Foundation – the non-profit arm of Sandals Resorts International – in aid of the St Lawrence Primary School.

Osgood, who was staying at Sandals Barbados, visited the school recently and met with students, senior staff members and principal Joycelyn Bryan.

The wide receiver said he made the donation because of the love he has for children and he thought the heartfelt gesture would benefit the students.

Bryan expressed thanks on behalf of the school.

“From our new library to the toy drive the Sandals Foundation did in December, they have really helped us through challenging times. Now, for our kids to meet an NFL star and his pledge to assist us is really amazing,” she said.

Director of programmes for the Sandals Foundation, Heidi Clarke, expressed gratitude for Osgood’s generosity.

“The Sandals Foundation is fortunate to have had support from Sandals guests over the years and we are grateful to Kassim Osgood for his thoughtful contribution to the Sandals Foundation,” she said.

“One of our mandates is to support and promote educational development in the communities where Sandals operates and this contribution will definitely help to make a difference in the lives of the teachers and children at St Lawrence Primary.”

Sandals Barbados also organises a Reading Road Trip every Thursday where guests visit the school and engage students in literacy development activities.

The Sandals Foundation also partners with Pack For A Purpose, through which guests bring up to five pounds of school supplies for local distribution. (PR)
