COULD THE SHOOTING DEATH of Selwyn Knight have been avoided?
It’s a question that has triggered a nightmare for Knight’s family in light of the controversial circumstances surrounding how the 57-year-old retired Port worker met an untimely end while chasing a man, who minutes earlier had allegedly burglarised his Queen Mary Road, Bank Hall, St Michael home last Sunday morning.
His son, released from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) yesterday, after suffering two bullet injuries from the same gun discharged by an off-duty police officer, was querying why there was no caution like “Police!” or “Freeze!” before the firearm that almost took his life too was discharged.
“Not even a warning shot,” was how 27-year-old Julian Jamar Knight summed up his feelings as he recalled how he saw his father lying motionless after stumbling to the ground after the sudden sound of gunfire.
Julian, a sales representative with WIBISCO, also charged that some police officers were trying to get him to sign a new statement about the circumstances that led to his father’s killing, which occurred at Dash Gap in the same district.
