Talent roll call

MICHAEL JACKSON and ace saxophonist Arturo Tappin were in town, and on the same stage on Sunday.

Such was the level of innovation at the inaugural Schools’ Music Festival held at the Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.

It was an evening where talent overflowed, as budding entertainers from the island’s primary and secondary schools gave family, friends and other supporters lots to shout and cheer about by bringing their best to impress in the categories of instrumentalist, school band/ensemble, choir and solos.

The name Simeon Maynard will undoubtedly be on lips for a long time to come. Appearing in the second half of the show, the ten-year-old drummer boy from Charles F Broome Primary literally beat his way into the hearts of the hundreds who turned out in support of the talented youngsters. (YB)
