DARREN SAMMY, the eternal optimist, used a boxing analogy to explain his theory of how the West Indies could defeat New Zealand in tomorrow’s (overnight Barbados time) World Cup quarter-final in Wellington.

Sammy is clearly a fan of the fight game. He was just seven years old when James “Buster” Douglas, a 42-1 outsider, knocked out the fearsome Mike Tyson, the undefeated, unbeaten heavyweight champion of the world, on February 10, 1990 in Tokyo.

His point was that the impossible can be turned into the possible in a one-off contest.
