Road safety for little ones

THE MESSAGE of road safety is being carried by the little ones across the island, and Eden Lodge Nursery was the first.

The Barbados Road Safety Association (BRSA) yesterday launched the Children’s Traffic Safety Club at the nursery, an initiative to foster a culture of safety from an early age.

BRSA president Sharmane Roland-Bowen said the idea was to take the club to every primary and nursery school in Barbados.

“We teach pedestrian and passenger safety as well as bicycle safety and how to cross the road using interactive programmes and videos. In older students, we are looking to form safety cadets who can promote road safety among their families and communities,” she said.

At the Eden Lodge Nursery, Roland-Bowen said the response was good and the children were actively involved as they keenly listened to what is the right thing to do when walking on the island’s roads. (CA)
