THE STAND-OFF between the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) and Barbadian teachers over the lack of compensation for grading School-Based Assessments (SBAs) looks to be worsening.
Teachers represented by the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) have already indicated they will not be marking the projects this year unless the Caribbean Examination Council, with whom they have been battling for years, agrees to compensate teachers for the extra work and personal expense.
Now the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT), which has never been involved in the fight before, is declaring that it is prepared to join the BSTU in its position until CXC, or the relevant agency comes around to their way of thinking.
Speaking to the DAILY NATION, BUT president Pedro Shepherd said they met with teachers from three schools last Wednesday and the complaints mirrored what BSTU president Mary Redman had been highlighting for years. (YB)
