THE PAN AMERICAN Health Organisation (PAHO) might be impressed, but former HIV/AIDS czar Carol Lady Haynes has some worries about Barbados’ readiness to handle a case of the dreaded Ebola virus.

One worry is that if Barbados does not get the right system in place a single suspected case of Ebola might lead to the temporary shutdown of clinics and doctors’ offices where the initial help was sought.

The high cost of protective wear for front-line workers who have to deal with suspected Ebola cases and the unavailability of some equipment were also listed as concerns when Lady Haynes addressed the Senate yesterday.
