Sargassum weed ruining Easter

HOW GOOD is Good Friday without a traditional flying fish meal?

It looks like many Barbadians may have to look for an alternative this year. The reason? Sargassum seaweed.

Fishermen report that flying fish are avoiding the seaweed that’s invading the country’s coastal waters. As a result, what is caught is being sold at prices some Bajans are balking at.

The SUNDAY SUN visited three fish-vending areas last week – Six Men’s, St Peter; Oistins, and Bridgetown to get the lowdown on the matter.

At Six Men’s, Lucina Skeete was boning a set of flying fish but do not be fooled. She said it was a rare thing these days. (CA)
