Bring Calypso tours into the schools. That’s the call from veteran songstress and entertainer Alison Hinds, who says such direct engagement with the artists can do so much for the Crop-Over Festival and the calypso artform in Barbados.
Speaking to Weekend Buzz she said she had been to Trinidad and seen what such interaction did in schools there and believed a similar approach could serve as an incentive for local youth and the development of local calypso.
She said she believed mentoring was an important part of such development.
“I have just started doing that with Faith Callender, but in terms of a broader sense, it is not just the more established artistes that need to be involved, it also needs to be involvement at a community and social level.
