BARBADIAN CHILDREN would have free camps to attend three times a year, if a Government minister has his way.

Speaking at the weekly lunchtime lecture at the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) headquarters yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Darcy Boyce, sought to defend Government’s spending in the last eight years and he said he would fund camps at Easter, summer and Christmas, if it were up to him.

“We have to walk before we can run on it, because that way we will know that our children are in protected care all vacation long,” he said.

“People quarrel about the few million dollars for the camps . . . . Seven million dollars on the camps for the little children? Seven million out of $2.4 billion and that’s too much for the little children? I think it should be more, but it’s just we don’t have the resources,” he said, as he also defended the money plugged into the constituency councils. (YB)
