New lab to cost US$9m

GOVERNMENT is plugging just over US$3 million in the new Barbados National Reference Laboratory.

Minister of Health John Boyce, and United States Ambassador Dr Larry Palmer broke soil at the Enmore, Martindale’s Road, St Michael site yesterday morning. Palmer was representing the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is supplying the other US$6 million for the project, which is expected to be constructed over 16 months.

The state-of-the-art  lab will be the amalgamation of the Ladymeade Reference Unit, the Public Health and the Leptospiro laboratories.
