Lorde first English-speaking Pan Am president

DR ADRIAN LORDE has scored another first for Barbados.

He was elected president of the Pan American Confederation of Sports Medicine (COPAMEDE) – the first native English speaker to hold the office.

Lorde was unanimously elected at the Council of Delegates meeting held during the Pan Am Games Sports Medicine Congress in Toronto, on Friday, and will serve until 2019.

As president, Lorde plans to raise the profile of the hemispheric body which represents North, Central, and South America, and the Caribbean.

Speaking from Canada yesterday, the family physician who was founder and former president of the Barbados Sports Medicine Association, said his plans include revamping COPAMEDE’s website, as well as revising its constitution. (SP)
