Bishop not enough to hold off St Barnabas

THE RETURN of former Barbados ace shooter Lydia Bishop and her team Spooner Hill to the Barbados Netball Association’s Division One action wasn’t a fairy-tale one at the Netball Stadium on Monday night.

Bishop scored 13 goals from 14 attempts while Spooner Hill looked in control before imploding in their third quarter to allow defending champions Pine Hill St Barnabas to recover from their Little League Gym knockout finals loss to UWI Blackbirds to take the opening league game 34-28.

Ironically, Bishop arrived at the match in the third quarter after her team had taken an 8-7 lead in the first quarter and St Barnabas had locked the scores at 14-14 at half-time. Although Bishop stamped her authority in the shooting circle, Spooner Hill’s mid court stuttered due to tremendous defence from St Barnabas.
