Bajan riders miss the mark

BARBADOS’ hopes of landing as a team in the Caribbean region of the FEI World Jumping Challenge competition came to an abrupt halt in the Archer’s Hall-sponsored first leg at the picturesque Whitehall Equestrian Centre in St Peter last Sunday.

In order to win or place in Zone 10, Barbados needed to have all three legs of this competition successfully completed by at least three riders – one in each division after the FEI had increased the heights of the competition in Category A (maximum 1.30m,) Category B (maximum 1.20m,) and Category C (maximum 1.10m.).

But this was not possible on Sunday for various reasons.

Teenager Erin Stephany, the lone elite rider to attempt the 1.30m Category A rounds, rode a brilliant first round on her thoroughbred mare Stella Blue with only four faults. (CH)
