292 to tee off today

CLOSE TO 300 players will tee off today  in the 15th annual Sir Garry Sobers Golf Championships, being played at four courses over the next four days.

The championship flight, which features a number of scratch golfers and others with handicaps of five and lower, will be hosted at the Royal Westmoreland course today before moving to Apes Hill Club tomorrow, the Sandy Lane Country Club on Saturday and the Barbados Golf Club on Sunday.

Defending champion and Barbados player Scott Stollmeyer seems to have a major challenge on his hands in the top flight which also features British scratch golfer Tyrone Carter, American Joseph Swick and Canada-based Stephen Layne.

Former West Indies captain Brian Lara and ex-soccer star Dwight York are also competing in that division.
