THE CONCESSIONS granted to Sandals Hotel may have met wide criticism but prominent real estate developer Paul Altman says the resort chain has brought greater brand recognition to Barbados.

“I know there are many arguments against certain benefits that the Sandals group would have achieved in terms of getting them to come here,” Altman said.

“I can safely say that Sandals has brought a brand name to Barbados – name recognition and more traffic; spin-offs in so many directions in terms of employment, services (that) maybe they are not using as much as another brand that is not all-inclusive, but you measure what Sandals is doing and what it will continue to do and I suggest that is one of the ways forward.”

Altman, who has been involved in real estate for over 30 years, made the comments while delivering the feature address at the launch of the executive diploma in real estate management at the Cave Hill School of Business yesterday.
