PM’s tirade an embarrassment

Share post:

THE VERTICALITY AND HORIZONTALITY of the recent vicious attack on Sir Hilary Beckles was a shame and an embarrassment.

Regardless of the merits and methods of recent changes regarding fees at the University of the West Indies, Sir Hilary was correct in stating that there has been a setback in education here.

Our leaders have to learn that whether they like certain developments or not, facts are facts. We have to hope that they learn from their outbursts and tantrums, and that they do not embarrass us on the international or global stage.

Instead of trying to jump in the ling of the Independence to republic legacy, our prime minister should shelve that pursuit and indelibly entrench our beaches back into the inheritance of our people. Clean up the so-called public beach next to Schooner Bay in Speightstown, ensure adequate public access to all beaches, and protect our coastline.

Then, as with our schools, ABC Highway, roundabouts and so on, there will be ample space to highlight and “write his name” and those of others “on history’s page”.
