HEALING HERBS: Finding ways to lift spirit

DR HENDERSON CARTER, lecturer at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, delivered an exceptional presentation to my Caribbean history (CXC) class last week.

At the core of the presentation were passion, genuine research evidence and confidence. Dr Carter also impressed us with his excellent oratory. His visit coincided with another person who had earlier expressed the following thoughts: “Maynard-Watson, I really feel underappreciated at my workplace.”

When I reflected on Dr Carter’s confidence, I truly hoped that persons who feel underappreciated were there to share his exuberance of confidence.

So how do we heal feelings of underappreciation so that we can resurrect and embrace our authentic selves?

1. Seek divine guidance from the Creator and listen to intuition.

2. Be aware of who we are, know our gifts and embrace our talents.

3. Expand our gifts beyond the workplace. Dr Carter uses his research skills and expertise to empower others to appreciate history.

4. Never succumb to “psychological terrorism” from others at work. Instead, see the deliverers of this negative device as “strugglers” locked in their self-made prison of despair and negativity. Without professional assistance “strugglers” will continue to struggle so avoid them.

5. Do not depend on persons who don’t appreciate themselves to show appreciation towards you or your achievements. Instead, saturate your workspace or home with your achievements. Take a page from the offices of most doctors – the walls are decorated with their achievements and images of family members.

6. Commend yourself each time you believe you need to. You do not need a supervisor or manager to validate your sense of achievement or divine authenticity.

7. Join or seek permission and commence a community project. A kitchen garden project loaded with medicinal plants is an excellent start. You can share what you reap with persons who show appreciation towards you.

8. Research the health benefits of silent doctor jackfruit.

Finally, at some time we will go through a period of feeling underappreciated. Underappreciation is very easy to recognise but always remember the persons who project this type of negative behaviour towards others are victims of underappreciation.

Master the art of healing by digging out the roots of underappreciation and meticulously replant seeds of love, confidence and selfappreciation.
