AS BARBADIANS LIT candles to remember those who have died from HIV/AIDS, the president of the AIDS Society of Barbados is reporting a downward trend in the numbers of new infections on the island.
Dr Henrick Ellis was speaking to the Daily Nation moments after the local society held its International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Service at the Breath of Life Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Whitehall Main Road, St Michael, on Sunday evening. In the process, it joined other worldwide organisations in the global annual event.
Ellis said the stigma associated with HIV, as well as the discrimination against people who were living with it, had decreased over the years as Barbadians came to accept the disease. HLE
