Four appear in court on drug charges

FOUR MEN have been charged in connection with the importation of 1.8 kilogrammes of cocaine.

Members of the Drug Squad have formally charged 42-year-old Henry Antonio Carter of Storey Gap, St Michael and 51-year-old Raoul Hardat Singh of Strathclyde, St Michael with possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

Meanwhile, 57-year-old Trevor Carmichael O’Brien Payne of Belmont Road, St Michael and 37-year-old Shern Peters were charged with the offence of conspiracy to traffic. 

According to police, Carter and Singh cleared a package at the cargo section of the airport on Wednesday.

The vehicle they were travelling in was later intercepted by police, and the contraband was allegedly discovered. 

Further investigations led to the arrests of Payne and Peters.

The four men appeared at the Oistins Magistrates’ Court today and Carter, Singh and Payne were each granted bail in the sum of $50 000 with sureties.

Peters was remanded.  They are to return to court on May 28, 2015. (PR/NB)
