FORMER WEST INDIES CRICKET CAPTAIN Clive Lloyd has knocked top regional players who he says are “ignoring” domestic level cricket.
Though not naming any while speaking at a West Indies Cricket Board town hall meeting at UWI Cave Hill campus on Friday night, Lloyd said that these players were instead opting to play in the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL).
“I want our cricket to be the main course and the IPL to be the snack but we have it the other way around, so we have a problem,” he told the small audience.
Admitting that he was not a fan of the shortened form of the game, Lloyd, the current WICB chairman of selectors, maintained he did not want to stop a player from making money. However, he encouraged these players to emulate those from other cricketing nations, who though they compete in the IPL, make themselves available when called upon to represent their national side.
