MONDAY JUNE 1 has been designated as a day of prayer and fasting for the benefit of Barbadian children and youth.

Bishop Gerry Seales who presides over the Barbados District of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies said all Christians are invited to participate.

“As a nation we have some incredible young people excelling in such diverse areas as academics, sports and culture. We commend and celebrate them.

“At the same time there are negative forces that are drawing some of our youth into the evil of such things as drug and chemical abuse, unrestrained sexual promiscuity and violence,” he said in a release issued this morning.

Seales also made reference to the popular Charlie Charlie Challenge.

“While the debate over the cons (it is really difficult to find pros) of the Charlie Challenge will continue, it remains a reality that a rumour can circumnavigate the globe before the truth gets its shoes on. Caution is therefore necessary as we seek to understand this phenomenon,” he said.

The bishop said if fasting is impractical for medical reasons, residents should do a “partial fast” and “above all, pray”. (PR/NB)
