BPSA: VAT could be cut

THE VALUE ADDED TAX (VAT), from which very few Barbadians can escape, could be coming down.

Word of this has come from chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Association (BPSA), Alex McDonald, who told the WEEKEND NATION that his association believes that when Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler presents his Budget on June 15, VAT will be reduced.

Currently consumers of goods and services must pay 17.5 per cent VAT on every transaction. The rate was increased by Sinckler in his 2010 Budget when it was moved from 15 per cent, effective December 1, 2010.
