Deloitte: Deal with digital age

IT’S A NEW ERA where digital influences and Barbadian businesses, like their international counterparts, need to come to grips with it.

That’s the advice coming from senior officials of Deloitte, which has established a new Deloitte Digital practice to get companies in tune with the “digital disruption”.

Speaking last week at a Digital Disruption And Transformation conference held by Deloitte Barbados at Hilton Barbados, Gordon Sandford, partner lead Deloitte digital practices, Deloitte Canada, said companies had no choice but to prepare themselves to negate the negatives from digital developments, while also exploiting the benefits.

Digital disruption refers to positive and negative changes that are occuring because of technological advancements.

“The reality is it is a new era. We need to recognise this is not a singular trend, this is not something that’s coming and will pass, this is a new era of working that’s very very different for us and we need to think about what that means,” Sandford said.

“It’s about not being afraid to try things, not being afraid to experiment and being out there and I think is what digital can offer for many of us. It gives you an opportunity to explore and bring new ideas and new capabilities.”

Deloitte Barbados managing partner Betty Brathwaite said the firm was “much more than audit” and would be offering clients help with everything digital.

“In terms of digital, it has changed everything. We are more connected, informed and interactive than ever before. Clients, like us, operate within an immediate world, the next generation is growing up accustomed to instant gratification,” she said.

“We are collectively tearing down the traditional model and giving way to creative and business solution services in silo. Recognising these shifts and embracing the disruption, Deloitte Digital is a new model onto itself, it’s an agency and a consultancy and through Deloitte Barbados you have access to all that’s being offered as a result.” (SC)
