Gems drop second match to Jamaica

BARBADOS GEMS will be hoping to avert a 3-0 sweep when they take on Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls in the final netball match tonight at the GC Foster College.

Barbados lost Saturday night’s second match 64-30 despite an improved shooting performance. Shonica Wharton scored 22 from 25; Sheniqua Thomas two from four; Latonia Blackman five from seven and Rieah Holder scored the only attempt she took.

Jamaica also tried different shooting combinations as they moves closer to selecting the team for the Netball World Cup in August.

Jhaniele Fowler-Reid scored 28 goals from 32 attempts and Anna Kay Griffiths 13 from 17.Teenager Simone Gordon also got a taste of the competition, scoring 14 from 17 and Thristina Harwood added nine from 12.

Jamaica led all quarter 23-6, 41-12 and 56-18 and won the first match 52-22. (SAT)
