THE KING IS BACK on his throne.
Make that title No. 4 for Barbados’ best, as top-ranked tennis pro Darian King came from a set down before winning his latest singles title at the USTA Tulsa Pro Championships at Philcrest Hills Tennis Club in Tulsa over the weekend.
Playing against unseeded American Noah Rubin in Sunday’s final, the top-seeded King overcame a slow start before eventually rolling to a 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 victory.
The title win serves as much-needed consolation for the 23-year-old Bajan ace, who surprisingly didn’t earn an invite to this year’s Wimbledon qualifiers despite rising to a career best 215 in the world earlier this month.
Just last month King won singles titles in Mexico and Florida after also capturing his first championship of the year in Panama without dropping a set back in March. (JM)
