BARBADOS WANTS greater cooperation from its CARICOM neighbours in dealing with the Islamic State’s (ISIS) recruitment of fighters in the region.
Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite said yesterday that regional states were yet to determine the best way to deal with their citizens who were returning home after fighting for ISIS, the radical Sunni Muslim organisation, as well as the interaction between those fighters and their local communities.
“It is a source of concern to us, but again it is not something that can be dealt with individually,” Brathwaite told reporters on the fringes of a meeting at Hilton Barbados yesterday morning of border security officials from at least 12 Caribbean countries, the United States, Britain and the United Kingdom.
That meeting focused on transnational organised crime. (TY)
