Summit starts with pomp

THE LEADERS OF CARICOM were ushered into the opening ceremony of the 36th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government to the beat of drums from the Barbados Defence Force’s Zouve Band yesterday evening.

Prior to their arrival, on the outside of the conference room there was a parade and a salute to the leaders by BDF officers.

Led into the conference room at Hilton Barbados by host Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, the leaders took their places on the stage. Their arrival, however, was preceded by that of secretary general of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, secretary general of the Commonwealth Kamalesh Sharma and secretary general of Caricom Irwin LaRocque.
