Child Care Board short of staff

CHAIRMAN OF THE Child Care Board (CCB) Ken Knight has said that the CCB does not have enough staff to deal with the overwhelming number of cases, involving the physical and sexual abuse of children.

He made the admission yesterday during a telephone interview with the SUNDAY SUN, shortly after he issued a statement acknowledging that officers had received reports of injuries to six-year-old Jahan King, who died last Monday – two days after he was referred to the CCB by a school principal for an injury to his eye.

“The Child Care Board deeply regrets the passing of the child, Jahan King and extends its profound condolences to his family and loved ones,” he said.

“The Board acknowledges that it did receive reports of injuries to the child and that its officers had been actively conducting investigations which were ongoing at the time of his death.” (MB)
