White takes NCF title

THE KING OF ROAD TENNIS Julian “Michael Jackson” White won his 42nd national title at the Deighton “Pa” Roach Tennis Centre in Bush Hall by dismissing Michael Jean in straight sets in the finals of the National Cultural Foundation’s Crop Over tournament on Sunday night.

Playing with tremendous focus and matching class in his forehand and backhand, White dismissed Jean 21-11, 21-13 to retain the NCF crown and earn $600. Jean won $400.

From early a large crowd had gathered to witness what had promised to be a rejuvenation of White after he had outclassed Curtis Jones in the semis by displaying the form of eight years ago. The only disappointment of the night was that Jean did not offer a big enough challenge to allow the fans more entertainment.
