Funding search on for stadium

GOVERNMENT IS IN the process of sourcing financing for the planned redevelopment of the dilapidated National Stadium.

The works will cost in the region of US$54 million and National Sports Council CEO Jerry Blenman noted they may have to complete it in two phases. Blenman was at the National Stadium yesterday where Olympic legend Carl Lewis was conducting a sprints and jumps clinic.

He told NATION SPORTS that the work will take an estimated 30 months to complete but if they do it in phases, the first phase will take approximately 18 months.

The stands at the National Stadium were closed to the public after the final day of the BSSAC meet in March. The decision was taken after reports of patrons being injured by falling masonry. (PG)
