ACCORDING TO a recent study in Bulawayo, which I just made up, 98.73 per cent of people want to be sheeps. That is, they prefer to be led rather than think for themselves.
“Brainwashing” makes use of this phenomenon in a big way. Advertisers on TV get people to believe they can have fab abs, lustrous hair, blemish-free skin, instant meals and (for the Wild Coot generation) four-hour erections.
Men have been brainwashed into believing that marriage will entitle them to never-ending nookie and more and more keep plunging into the abyss.
While women think a husband will go and investigate if they hear a noise outside at night. My wife tried that on me once. “Richard, wake up. It’s 2 a.m. There’s a man trying to get the front door open.”
This was indeed true. And, as the man of the house, I took appropriate action. Locked myself hastily in the toilet with the light off. Requested a phone book and torch to be slipped in, called the police. Had he got in, I envisaged the following conversation:
Intruder: “Anybody in there?”
Me: “Only brooms. This is a broom cupboard”.
Intruder: “Okay”. Which would’ve worked with any intruder except maybe Oscar Pistorious. Which reminds me I need a bulletproof phone book.
Doctors and dietitians brainwash. And don’t talk about politicians. It’s their stock in trade best friend. How many times have we elected yet another party fully believing they won’t be corrupt, won’t take contributions from businessmen, will put the country’s good before narrow self-interest and getting themselves elected?
Hitler and Napoleon were boss brainwashers, galvanising whole nations behind them. Jim Jones took it a step further, influencing 909 followers to kill themselves. I used to think he was unique in this respect but apparently not. Extreme Muslim groups have no trouble recruiting suicide bombers, including women and children.
Mind you, brainwashing can be used for good purposes. Our religious, conservative upbringing stood us in good stead and gave guidance to right and wrong, now sadly lacking in today’s generation. I have the enduring hope that a new leader will arise to put our country back on the path to discipline, honesty, hard work and self-sufficiency. He too will have to brainwash big time.
Nowadays, however, brainwashing has been ramped up to a new level with its ultimate tool – the Internet and social media. Cunning, diabolical forces now wield immense power and no amount of logic or good old-fashioned common sense can seemingly stem the avalanche.
The homo thing has been the brainwashing manipulators’ greatest triumph. Obama and Bankey Moon have swallowed. Even the great Eric Lewis is in the fray talking about “no right and wrong sins” and the Bible.
Wild Coot, ask your Bible-reading lady about punishments in the Bible. David watched Uriah’ wife bathing naked and sent him to get killed so he could have her. Were any cities destroyed for that? Solomon fornicated like a ram goat, any cities destroyed? People lied, stole, beat a talking jackass, any cities destroyed?
But Sodom and Gomorrah, buggery rampant, “their sin so grievous”, obliterated. Even Lot’s wife got turned into sodium chloride for looking back at such wickedness. No big and little sins, Eric?
Legalise buggery and some homers could slip you two Cosby Quaaludes and swear later you gave consent. It’d be their word against yours. Or any other goodlooking youth’s.

My grandson had to answer a question recently on bullying. He wrote: “Report to the headmaster where and when the incident took place and who was bullying whom”. At least that is what he intended to write. He left out the “y” in a key word. Luckily his mother spotted.
But he wasn’t far wrong. Buggery has become synonymous with bullying. No aid unless you change your laws. Jamaican entertainers banned in certain countries. A medical doctor fired from UWI…
When brainwashing moves into the realm of bullying, a new level of evil hath descended.
