Win keeps Lakers in the game

LAKERS ARE STILL HOLDING on to their play-off lives.

Barely.

The league’s longest postseason streak isn’t just dead yet as Ian Alexander led six players in double digits with 18 points during Thursday’s 99-49 rout of Cougars in the Co-operators General Insurance Basketball Premier League at the Wildey Gym.

It was a much-needed result for the former four-time league champs, who remained in seventh place with a 6-7 record and are one defeat away from missing the play-offs for the first time since 2004.

But that threat of defeat never came against Cougars though, not after America-based big man John Jones started six of seven from the field for a quick 12 points in Lakers’ 26-15 first-quarter lead.
